Rose
Ferlita has a rich family history in Tampa. Born and raised in Ybor
City, she worked in her family's business,
Ferlita Bakery, which is now
the site of the Ybor State
Museum. Rose attended high school at the Academy of the Holy Names. She
left Tampa only to attend Loyola University in New Orleans, LA to
complete her undergraduate studies and the University of Florida in
Gainesville to complete her graduate studies at the College of Pharmacy.
Rose's business experience is well-balanced. She served for 18 years
in the corporate world with Eckerd Corporation and CVS/ProCare. In 1984,
she founded Rose Drugs, Inc. where she has served the pharmacy
needs of the Seminole Heights community and others for more than 20
years.
Rose served as the District 2, Citywide Tampa City Councilmember from March 2, 1999 until November 1, 2006. During her two terms, she represented the City as the Chairman of the Community Redevelopment Agency, the Vice-Chairman of the Public Transportation Commission, the Chairman of the Public Safety Committee and the Vice-Chairman of the Public Works Committee. In November, 2006, Rose was elected as the District 1, Hillsborough County Commissioner, where she serves the citizens of the "coastal communities" in Hillsborough County, Florida. In March, 2007, Rose Drugs was acquisitioned by CVS Pharmacy. This move was taken, in order for Rose to be able to dedicate her full time attention to the constituents of Hillsborough County.
